From March 24 to March 30, 2013, thirteen Futures and Options students battled the snow and traveled to Franklin, West Virginia, to work with Habitat for Humanity to help build a porch and handicap ramp for a family. When we arrived, all that was outside the house was snow and mud. By the time we left, there was a full porch and ramp complete with posts and floor boards. Students overcame their fears of power tools, mastered the post-digger tools, and learned the importance of accurate measuring.
